Cafe de l’Opera

Historic spot for a hot chocolate

Normally we’d recommend avoiding eating or drinking at places located on La Rambla, asthe boulevardis chock full of tourist traps, but we’ll make an exception for Cafe de l’Opera.

This historic café is located directly across from theLiceu Theatreand is a lovely place to enjoy a drink, surrounded byCatalan Art Nouveaustylings.

It opened in the 18th century as a tavern, but in the 19th century was converted into achocolateriabefore getting a Modernista makeover in the late 1920s.

Today, they serve a selection of sandwiches, tapas, sweets and hot drinks, including hot chocolate and churros. Prices are somewhat inflated, but not bank breaking.
